The Limburg Youth Symphony Orchestra (LJSO) was founded in 2010 and is the only Youth Symphony Orchestra in Limburg.
The orchestra offers young musicians the opportunity to perform in a symphonic setting and consists of students aged 14 to 25 from conservatories and music schools, as well as young talent from private music education.
LJSO performances encompass a diverse repertoire, including classical symphonic works and collaborations with international soloists, conductors, and young talent.
In addition to concerts, LJSO organises workshops with professional musicians and conductors. Previous workshops have been led by renowned musicians such as Dominic Seldis, Rosanne Philippens, René Henket, Vesko Eschkenazy, Sander Teepen, and Arno Piters.
Participation in these workshops is free and open to emerging talent. They are offered a unique opportunity to gain musical insights, connect with other musicians, and learn from renowned musicians.
In January 2024, the orchestra collaborated with conductor Manon Meijs and soloist Arno Piters. In October, of the same year the orchestra performed with conductor Sander Teepen and soloist Quirine Viersen during the opening concert of the International Vocallis Festival.
In 2025, the LJSO has several special projects planned. From June 13th to 15th, the LJSO, Toneelgroep Maastricht, and the Heiligdomsvaart will present a unique theatrical music production. The highlight of the year is on November 23rd, when the LJSO celebrates its 15th anniversary with an anniversary concert conducted by Matty Cilissen at the Theater aan het Vrijthof.
The LJSO plays an important role in Limburg's cultural life, fosters the next generation of classical musicians, and offers high-quality musical experiences for all music lovers.
